Fallout fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of Fallout: London, a major revamp of Fallout 4 on PC that takes players on a journey into the post-apocalyptic ruins of the British capital. With the growing popularity of VR gaming, there’s hope that players will be able to experience this ambitious mod in virtual reality.
While there has been no official announcement regarding VR compatibility for Fallout: London, it’s not impossible: Fallout 4 VR, for example, already exists, providing the foundation for a VR experience in the Fallout universe. Additionally, a similarly large Skyrim mod, Enderal: The Shards of Order, has been successfully adapted for VR, offering a ray of hope for Fallout: London players.

The big challenge for Fallout: London VR
But the challenge is immense: creating a VR experience requires meticulous attention to detail and optimization. Large mods like Fallout: London often introduce new assets, scenery, and gameplay mechanics that must be carefully integrated into the VR environment. This can be a lengthy, complex process and can be tedious. Developers are already working on this due to compatibility issues with next-gen updates, but no one knows if VR support will be affected as well.
Additionally, VR mods often require specific tools and knowledge that aren’t readily available to the average modder. Technical hurdles like compatibility issues with VR hardware, performance optimization, and preventing motion sickness can be daunting.
Unofficial methods
Despite these obstacles, the dedicated modding community has shown incredible ingenuity in the past, and if enough dedicated fans are determined to port Fallout: London to VR, someone may eventually overcome the obstacles and create a playable experience.
For now, it’s important to manage expectations. Fallout: London VR is more dream than reality. While it’s very possible, a seamless, fully optimized VR version is unlikely to come to fruition. However, the modding community has amazed us before, so there’s always a chance.
