The PlayStation VR 2 has been reduced to just £349 at most major UK retailers, and the Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle has also been reduced to just £389 – the cheapest price ever for a VR headset, although there’s still no sign of a similar deal coming to the US.
However, this comes at great timing for Brits, as PSVR2 will soon receive Steam support, greatly expanding the range of games you can play on the headset.
Sony has released a new app for its Valve digital distribution store, which will be used to update firmware for the PSVR2 hardware and allow users to adjust settings like screen brightness and establish the device’s play area via the SteamVR dashboard.
What was said in the review
We absolutely love the PSVR2, giving it a 9/10 rating in our PSVR2 review. Reviewer Gabriel Moss said the headset “far surpasses the original PSVR in terms of ease of use, image quality, and immersion,” and that “any PlayStation owner who loves VR should upgrade ASAP.” It’s a virtual reality device that also made it onto our list of the best VR headsets, and a worthy purchase for any PlayStation owner who wants to be fully immersed in high-quality games.
Using PSVR 2 with Steam
The new Steam listing lists the system requirements for running Steam VR games on PSVR2, which remain unchanged from what Sony previously confirmed. For best performance, it recommends that your PC gaming rig be equipped with a newer GPU such as the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060, AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT, or RTX 40 series. You’ll also need a PC adapter, which will cost around $60, to run PSVR2 on your PC.
The PSVR2 Steam app will be released on August 6th, a day before the PC adapter officially launches. The device aims to increase the versatility of the premium VR gaming headset, as Sony looks to expand the PSVR2’s game library without limiting it to the PS5 gaming hardware ecosystem.
