Smartphones are our daily helpers. Apps help us with almost everything: entertainment, shopping, travel, and more. But too many apps can be tedious. When we travel, we need to plan our itinerary, accommodation, and programs. In the past, we had to access a variety of apps, including train and flight portals, hotel booking sites, recommendation apps, and more.
Visionary concept of digital assistant and app-free
At Mobile World Congress 2024, Deutsche Telekom, in collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and Brain.ai, will unveil a visionary AI phone concept. An artificial intelligence (AI)-based assistant replaces the myriad apps on your smartphone. Like a concierge, the assistant understands your intent and takes care of the details.
“Book me a flight to the quarterfinals.” Your intelligent assistant will follow your questions with just a voice command. The showcase uses concrete examples to explain how an AI smartphone can make your life easier when planning a trip, shopping, creating videos, and editing photos.
This is made possible by Deutsche Telekom’s generative interface, powered by Brain.ai. Using AI, it can take over the functions of different apps and perform all the everyday tasks that would normally require multiple applications on a device. The concierge can be easily and intuitively controlled via voice and text.
Jon Abrahamson, Chief Product and Digital Officer at Deutsche Telekom, is convinced: “Artificial intelligence and large language models (LLMs) will soon become an integral part of mobile devices. We will use them to improve and simplify our customers’ lives. Our vision is the Magenta Concierge of the smartphone, no app needed – a true everyday companion that meets your needs and simplifies your digital life.”
AI for everyone
During the showcase, a real use case was integrated into the telecom’s T Phone, which is already on sale, underlining the Group’s commitment to introduce innovations in devices already on the market and make them available to everyone. In collaboration with Brain.ai, a pioneer in generative interfaces, an app-free interface is being developed in which AI predicts and generates the next interface contextually, adapting to the user’s thoughts. Users can now focus on what they want, instead of how to get there. The AI is in the cloud. This ensures on the one hand an authentic and rewarding user experience, and on the other hand makes it accessible even on entry-level smartphones.
Deutsche Telekom is also showcasing another version of its AI smartphone powered by the Snapdragon® 8 Gen 3 reference design: in this high-performance device, AI processing takes place on-device, making the AI particularly fast, energy-efficient and more customized for each user.
Our joint development teams are continuously working on turning this concept into a reality. At the trade fair, our partners will present prototypes that show future possibilities and bring them to life. It will be some time before they are available to customers on store shelves.
Deutsche Telekom invites MWC visitors to its booth to experience the future of AI in mobile technology. The company is setting new standards and pushing the boundaries of innovation while maintaining a continued focus on trust, privacy and security to deliver the best AI customer experience.
