Qualcomm Technologies, a wireless technology and connectivity solutions company, announced the launch of the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 Mobile Platform to enable 5G communications for billions of smartphone users around the world.
The platform is described as demonstrating the company’s commitment to “engineering human progress” by the technology company, supporting and leading the global transition from 4G to 5G to empower both communities and industries.
Qualcomm predicts that the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 will redefine the entry-level mobile experience with “must-have” user features such as gigabit 5G connectivity, power efficiency for all-day battery life, and superior camera capabilities.
In terms of tech enhancements, the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 is said to offer rich features and robust CPU performance for seamless multitasking and productivity, dual-band navigation IC for improved location accuracy, AI-enhanced audio, and entertainment experiences such as smooth gameplay and powerful video streaming.
Based on GSMA 2023 smartphone connection data and limited to regions covered by the Snapdragon 4 Series Mobile Platform, Qualcomm said the new mobile platform will enable 5G for 2.8 billion smartphone users, delivering peak download speeds of 1Gbps, which is “seven times faster than LTE platforms typically available at the same price point” compared to peak download speeds of LTE Cat-4.
Looking at the core connectivity of the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 Mobile Platform, the new platform’s high-speed 5G and Wi-Fi are delivered through the Snapdragon X61 5G Modem-RF System, which is first-in-series with 3GPP Release 16 5G technology, translating to “superior power efficiency, unparalleled speeds and reliable coverage.” The Qualcomm Wi-Fi 5 feature solution is said to deliver fast and powerful Wi-Fi connections for gaming, streaming and other intensive applications.

In terms of commercial development, Qualcomm confirmed that the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 will first be adopted by “major OEMs” including Xiaomi and other brands, with the first commercial devices expected to be announced by the end of the year.
