According to the company, the Virtuix Omni One, an integrated home VR treadmill that has been in development for a long time, will finally start shipping in September.
The Omni One was announced nearly four years ago to be released in late 2021, but that never happened.
Unlike previous VR treadmill products, Omni One is unique in that it is fully integrated, meaning it comes with a VR headset running a content store with treadmill support purposefully integrated by the developers.
This VR headset was originally going to be the Pico Neo 2, but due to significant delays for the Omni One, it will instead be the Pico 4 Enterprise, a higher-level version of the Pico 4 with eye tracking, face tracking, and faster RAM.
To be clear, Pico 4 Enterprise does not run the Pico platform and store, instead it has Virtuix’s own Omni Store, with VR developers purposefully integrating support for treadmills using the SDK.
Virtuix says the Omni Store will include over 50 games at launch, including Alvo, Ancient Dungeon, Breachers, Death Horizon: Reloaded, Drop Dead: The Cabin, Dyschronia: Chronos Alternate, Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord, Hubris, Ilysia, In Death: Unchained, Journey to Foundation, Peaky Blinders: The King’s Ransom, Propagation: Paradise Hotel, Ruinsmagus, Sniper Elite VR, Survival Nation, The Exorcist: Legion VR, and Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate.
It’s worth pointing out that the term “treadmill” that Virtuix uses to describe Omni One is technically a bit misleading. The machine doesn’t have a moving belt. Instead, you wear special shoes that slide along a concave, disc-shaped base and are held in place by a harness suit attached to arms that keeps you stationary while you move your feet. These are sometimes called slipmills.
The Omni One is priced at $2,595 and includes the headset, controllers, and treadmill. The system will only be sold in the continental US and can be pre-ordered with a $200 deposit. Virtuix says the deposit is fully refundable and that you’ll be sent a link to pay the remaining $2,395 when the unit gets closer to shipping.
