CM Games, the developer of the single-player survival shooter Into the Radius (2020), today releases the highly anticipated sequel on Steam Early Access, returning us to the dangerous Pecholsk Safe Zone.
Like the original, Into the Radius 2 is an immersive VR survival shooter set in a surreal landscape filled with deadly anomalies. Available in both single player and two-player co-op (four-player will be added at a later date), you’ll arm yourself with realistic weapons and delve deeper into the mystery that lurks within the Pecholsk Security Zone.
According to CM Games, the sequel will retain some of the beloved features from the original, including “meticulously crafted weapons and attachments, a sophisticated loot management system, and the freedom to explore the secrets of dangerous locations teeming with anomalies and deadly enemies.”

In an attempt to temper the understandably high expectations that came from the original Into the Radius, the team released the following statement in a recent news update on Steam:
First, let’s state the obvious: even the full release version of ITR2 will not be able to contain as many features and content as ITR1 currently has. It’s sad, but true. The original has been through a long development journey with numerous major and minor updates, both by EA and post-release. It will take time for ITR2 to reach the same level of content, and it won’t be until the full release at the earliest.
The EA version of ITR2 will not be comparable in any way to the current state of ITR1 (meaning many bugs are to be expected). However, it is very important to us to develop based on player feedback, as this approach has proven successful with the ITR1 updates. This is the same principle we will follow when releasing ITR2 with EA.
The studio says the early access version, which starts today, will include a tutorial location, a base, and the first major gameplay area, but won’t include the full story, which is expected to arrive at some point.
According to the studio, these so-called “small locations,” which will offer a few hours of gameplay, will be the setting for the first mission and later serve as areas for side quests.

However, the first main “Radius” location is said to be “significantly larger and more complex than its predecessor”, larger than any in the original, and will reportedly offer between 5 and 10 hours of gameplay in its current form.
The “completely revamped, next-gen” Explorer Base is said to make the gameplay experience more convenient and interesting, and reveal changes to the storyline that will unfold in the future.
The studio also cited some things not to expect straight away from the initial release.
Story moments and episodes. Gameplay first. Narrative elements are already present in the visual design and individual details. The story will be expanded in updates. Weapon wear, cleaning, repair and customization. Hunger and its recovery. Armor and helmets. Completely new enemy types. Full implementation of the Tide (only the most basic version exists). Base laboratories, artifacts with perks and their processing. Difficulty settings. A stable cooperative mode with a fully functional radio. As we said in the last dev diary, this was the biggest technical challenge for us and work on cooperative reliability will continue until the full release of the game.
Be sure to check out the full news post for more details on the minimum and recommended specs and what to expect starting today.
