Shruti Sharma is a Fellow in the Carnegie India Technology and Society Program, where she is currently working on exploring the challenges and opportunities of leveraging biotechnology to improve India’s public health capacity.
Sharma is working closely with stakeholders across the scientific and academic communities, as well as representatives from the private sector and government, on a paper that will discuss the challenges faced by each community during the pandemic and the role of governments and the private sector in establishing a robust and sustainable research ecosystem.
Prior to this, Ms. Sharma worked on India’s view on biotechnology security risks. As part of this, she explored India’s vulnerability to naturally occurring diseases, infectious diseases through accidental accidents, and deliberate weaponization of technology for biological weapons development. She explored India’s strategies to address these risks and recommended measures to strengthen the country’s infrastructure to successfully deal with biological threats. During the project, she interacted with stakeholders from government, industry, academia and the scientific community and hosted multiple public and private events to understand their views on India’s vulnerability to various biological threats.
In addition to her research, her administrative role also includes organizing Carnegie India’s annual flagship event, the Global Technology Summit, which brings together leaders, entrepreneurs, technologists and academics from around the world to discuss technology policy issues including tech diplomacy, data privacy and protection, digital finance, artificial intelligence and biotechnology.
She holds a Masters in Biotechnology from Amity Institute of Biotechnology, Noida.
