Georgia ranked fourth in a new study on business applications, with a staggering 2,498 applications per 100,000 residents in 2022.
A new study has released the top 10 states that file the most business applications, with Wyoming taking the top spot.
Eaton Venture Services, a business valuation expert, collected county data from the U.S. Census Bureau to calculate each state’s total number of business applications filed in 2022. After determining each state’s total number, they then created a fair and definitive ranking of each state’s business applications per 100,000 residents, from most to least, compared to their population.
Ranking number one is Wyoming, with a staggering 7,149 business start-up applications filed per 100,000 residents in 2022. The Wyoming county with the most business start-ups in 2022 was Sheridan County, with 68,849 applications filed per 100,000 residents.
Coming in second is Delaware, which has attracted 4,465 business applications per 100,000 residents in 2022. Kent County filed the most applications in the state, with 6,829 applications per 100,000 residents.
Florida ranks third with 2,730 businesses formed per 100,000 residents in 2022. Miami-Dade County filed 4,760 business applications, making it the county with the most businesses formed in Florida.
Coming in fourth is Georgia, with 2,498 business applications filed per 100,000 people. The Georgia county with the most business openings in 2022 was Fulton County, with 4,644 applications filed per 100,000 people.
Coming in fifth place was Colorado, with 1,981 business applications filed per 100,000 residents in 2022. The county with the most business openings in Colorado was Pitkin County, with 4,032 business applications filed per 100,000 residents.
Coming in sixth is Nevada, with 1,945 businesses formed per 100,000 residents in 2022. Clark County has filed the most applications of any Nevada county, with 2,113 per 100,000 residents.
Utah ranked seventh, reporting 1,925 business applications submitted per 100,000 residents in 2022. Summit County had the most business openings in Utah, receiving 3,019 applications per 100,000 residents.
Mississippi ranks eighth with 1,893 business applications filed per 100,000 people in 2022. Coahoma County filed 3,855 applications per 100,000 people, making it the county with the most business openings in Mississippi.
In Montana, the state ranked 9th with 1,828 business applications filed per 100,000 residents in 2022. Flathead County, Montana, has about 3,711 businesses opening per 100,000 residents, more than any other county in the state.
Rounding out the top 10 states for starting the most businesses is Louisiana, at No. 10. The state reported 1,751 business applications filed per 100,000 people in 2022, with Orleans Parish filing the most applications at 2,584.
