As artificial intelligence (AI) technology advances, its use is expanding into major areas of industry, particularly in the field of robotics, where AI is being used to improve robots’ perception and thinking capabilities.
In this context, the 2024 Robotics Show, which showcased robots in various fields such as manufacturing, production, distribution, and logistics, was held at COEX in Seoul for three days from the 19th to the 21st.
Wego Robotics, a collaborative robot solutions company, has announced the launch of the B2, a four-legged autonomous robot equipped with AI solutions. The company explains that the robot can be flexibly used in a variety of environments and can perform high-quality tasks on behalf of humans even in complex terrain and high-risk environments.
A Wigo Robotics representative explained, “When we receive high-quality hardware from our hardware partners, we add AI software to it and supply it to them. If a crack occurs in the pipeline, a sound will be made, and this robot will detect the sound and report it to the remote monitoring and control side.”
Newbility, an autonomous driving robot service company, attracted the attention of visitors with its AI outdoor mobile robot “Newbee.” Newbee, which can also deliver goods outdoors, can carry up to 20kg of luggage and recognize its surroundings using sensors and cameras.
According to a company official, this is the first time in South Korea that a mobile robot has received safety certification for operating outdoors, and it is currently being used at Lamian Leaders One in Seocho-gu, Seoul.
Nubility has also introduced a patrol robot to this area. Nubility can autonomously patrol blind spots that are not visible on CCTV, providing crime prevention benefits day and night and minimizing patrol gaps.
A Newbility official said, “Newbee drives autonomously based on a map and determines the safest and most optimal route. In the case of a patrol robot, if a problem occurs the control center can recognize it and send a voice message, so just having Newbee patrolling has a crime prevention effect.”
Robotics company Ivy Tech also exhibited its smart guide robot, “Temi.” Temi can recognize users and provide services, and also has a docent function that explains each point. It can be used in public institutions, hospitals, museums, exhibitions, etc.
In particular, the company explained that Temi can be used in practical environments. Previously, the guidance robots it supplied could only be used in scenarios set up by partner companies, but Temi can be used according to various usage plans by directly mapping users.
In fact, Temi was deployed at the scene and was seen tracking the reporters’ movements and measuring the surrounding environment.
An Ivy Tech official said, “Mapping work is necessary to utilize the robot, and Taemi provides this mapping as a follow-up function without any tools or equipment, measuring using a lidar sensor. We have delivered to over 100 locations so far. You can see them in conditions like this in South Jeolla Province and Incheon.”
Meanwhile, an official who met at the site on the day said, “Recently, companies like Ant and Tem have rapidly entered the trading industry, threatening domestic companies, and the robotics sector is no exception. He added, “Chinese companies such as Roborock have already dominated the robot vacuum cleaner market, but there are concerns that they will also encroach on the domestic market. I would like to ask for your continued attention so that domestic companies can demonstrate their competitiveness.”
