Communication drives corporate strategy
Genesis employees take part in “formation flights” around the world
Genesys’ dedicated employee communications team won the Employee Communications Team of the Year award at Ragan’s 2024 Employee Communications Awards in recognition of their creative approach to aligning a globally dispersed workforce with the company’s vision.
In a post-pandemic world, with 95% of Genesys’ 6,500 employees continuing to work remotely across more than 50 countries, a sense of community and a universal understanding of the company’s strategy, purpose and values have been key to success. Genesys’ seven-person communications team, made up of three internal communications specialists and four executive leaders, was tasked with connecting the dispersed workforce.
They leveraged Genesys’ core value concept of “formation flying” to develop education campaigns, events, content plans and engagement strategies.
In January, the company launched an all-employee education campaign to ensure everyone understood the strategy for the coming financial year, which included distribution of the CEO’s vision statement and a one-page outline of the plan, followed by comprehension tests and competitions to encourage listening and understanding.
The kickoff event featured keynote addresses from the CEO who shared the vision, the Chief Product Officer showcasing technology leadership, and the Chief Customer Officer highlighting customer success.
The team deployed mission-supporting messaging across an intranet called One Genesys, in addition to weekly newsletters, quarterly all-hands meetings, and executive communications that highlighted driving growth, customer success, innovation, sustainability, and key performance indicators.
Meanwhile, to keep leaders aligned and communicate the company’s direction clearly, the communications team provided a private communication platform and arranged regular meetings between VPs and above and the CEO. They invited these leaders into employee spotlights to foster appreciation and human connection.
Employee engagement efforts included an April Fool’s email prank by the Chief Product Officer, a virtual party celebrating the second anniversary of One Genesys Portal with surprise appearances from social media stars, a “Genesys Got Talent” contest and employee photo albums of company events.
As a result of their efforts, surveys show that 92% of employees understand the company’s future plans and 90% feel well-informed about goals and priorities. Quarterly all-hands meetings average 4,000 people and generate high levels of satisfaction. The One Genesys portal has a monthly readership of 80% and a weekly newsletter open rate of 69%.
Congratulations to the Genesys communications team for their dedication to ensuring employees feel informed, connected, and contribute to the company’s success.
