Sangi Corporation’s Remineralizing Toothpaste has been inducted into the U.S. Space Technology Hall of Fame. Inspired by NASA technology, the product contains medical-grade hydroxyapatite, an ingredient that helps prevent tooth decay.
The award was announced at the 2024 Space Symposium, held April 8-11 in Colorado Springs. The Space Technology Hall of Fame is a non-profit organization that recognizes outstanding developments in space technology.
Sangi is the first Japanese company to receive this award and is known for its high-performance whitening toothpaste brand Apagard® and the long-selling medicated toothpaste Apadent®.
When Sangi founder and current chairman Shuji Sakuma decided to add hydroxyapatite to his toothpaste, he was inspired by NASA’s technology. NASA’s Electronics Research Center developed a technology that produces hydroxyapatite, the main component of teeth and bones, from its precursor brushite through a chemical reaction in the mouth, preventing astronauts from losing minerals in a zero-gravity environment.
