Spain-based financial services company BBVA has partnered with Telefonica to integrate advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and process automation into its global cybersecurity operations. The collaboration will leverage the expertise of Telefonica Tech, the Madrid-based communications group’s digital services division, to strengthen BBVA’s cybersecurity capabilities on a global scale. The new digital twin facility in Mexico will replicate BBVA’s existing cybersecurity center in Spain.
Telefonica Tec said the combination of the two companies would provide comprehensive and uninterrupted coverage across the entire group. The Mexican center, which will be fully operational starting this month, will oversee BBVA’s activities in the Americas, in collaboration with the Spanish center. The joint venture involves around 200 cybersecurity experts protecting digital customers in more than 25 countries. The venture makes Telefónica Tech a key cybersecurity partner for BBVA, strengthening one of the largest cybersecurity centers in the financial industry.
“These two centers dedicated to cybersecurity are unique in the financial industry and represent another step in protecting our infrastructure with the latest technological advances. Our goal is to strengthen our security against any type of attack and to be the bank that offers the best service to our customers with the best security guarantees on the market,” emphasized Sergio Fidalgo, BBVA’s Chief Information and Security Officer.
María Jesús Almazor, Chief Operating Officer of Telefónica Tech, added: “We are pleased to accompany BBVA on its global security process with our technological capabilities and expert talent. Our experts, with a global network of more than 1,500 professionals dedicated to cybersecurity work and more than 10 Security Operations Centers (SOCs) across Europe and the Americas, monitor and supervise the organization’s security 24/7.”
