In March, Nothing released one of its most affordable phones yet, the Nothing Phone (2a). But the company isn’t stopping there, and now it looks like they’re releasing the Nothing Phone (2a) Plus.
The company recently teased this idea with an image of the Pokémon Mega Aerodactyl on an X, followed by a plus sign, which may seem puzzling to some, but is actually a teaser for the Nothing Phone (2a) Plus.
Let me explain why this was a teaser (and it is!). Nothing used a Pokémon creature for the device codename, and the Phone (2a) was called Aerodactyl. In the Pokémon series, Mega Aerodactyl is an evolved Aerodactyl. This suggests that an evolved (2a) phone will be coming, and since it has a plus sign X post, it most likely means Nothing Phone (2a) Plus. And,
This interpretation is also supported by Indian telecom operator Jio’s listing of Nothing Phone (2a) Plus in its database, as shown by Mukul Sharma below.
There are no leaks about the specs of the Nothing Phone (2a) Plus, but this smartphone may have stronger performance. The Nothing Phone (2a) already has a large display (6.7 inches), so the Plus version is unlikely to be called Plus just because of the larger screen. The Nothing Phone (2a) is equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro, which, as we saw in the review, performs very well in simple tasks, but may start to struggle under higher loads.
If the Phone (2a) Plus focuses on improving performance, it will be more competitive with competitors such as Google, Motorola, OnePlus, etc. Not much is known about the design, but one thing is for sure: it will probably feature the distinctive and interesting Nothing design.
Hopefully, the (2a) Plus will launch in the U.S. The (2a) is available as a preview program in the U.S., but it’s not the best option due to limited network support. Teasers are already out, so more information is likely to be released in the coming days and weeks.
I hope that the Nothing Phone (2a) Plus will land in the US. I am always committed to competing in the low and mid-range market, and I hope that it will be available to US buyers looking for their next smartphone that is affordable, functional and cool looking. However, it remains to be seen whether this will happen. Either way, we will find out soon, as Nothing has confirmed the date. The launch date is July 31, 2024. Stay tuned!
