Previously, taxes and fees were included in the price of certain business plans if you bought fewer than six lines, but now, even if you need one to five lines, you’ll have to pay taxes on top of the advertised price.
The updated pricing structure is only for new customers, while existing customers will continue to use the same pricing model as before.
T-Mobile appears to have taken steps to avoid giving the impression that its business plans are more expensive than its competitors, as rivals such as Verizon also don’t take taxes into account when stating their prices. Including taxes in the advertised prices would make it appear that T-Mobile is charging more than its rivals, even if that’s not the case.
Also, because taxes vary by state, T-Mobile could have sacrificed profits to cover the taxes and fees. And, as we’ve learned over the past few years, T-Mobile is not the kind of company that sacrifices profits.
Most users, especially those who were considering adding lines for business use, are not happy with this change. Some are also concerned that this new policy will be applied to residential users as well. We think that is unlikely, but T-Mobile has shown in recent months that they are not afraid of controversial changes and have managed to pull off (almost) any change surprisingly well.
