As part of the state government’s efforts to strengthen the training and development of experts in research and innovation in the detection and response of digital threats, new technological equipment has been delivered to the Cybersecurity Laboratories of the Metropolitan Polytechnic University (UTM) and the Technological University of Yucatan (UPY).
The new equipment, delivered by the Secretariat of Research, Innovation and Higher Education (Siies), is a six-square-meter high-definition video wall (made up of six liquid crystal screens or LCDs) and hardware, and is part of the second equipment delivery to these two training spaces, inaugurated by Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal in January 2023.
The so-called video wall can be operated wirelessly by four workstations simultaneously, allowing the display of presentations, activities, attack and defense simulations in real time, or emulate environments to mitigate software vulnerabilities.
Currently, UTY offers Cybersecurity Engineering and UTM offers educational services such as Digital Networks and Cybersecurity Engineering, Cybersecurity Specialization and Diploma in Cybersecurity. In addition, both universities are part of an institution that will teach a Master’s degree in Cybersecurity in collaboration with the Autonomous University of Yucatan (UADY) from January 2025.
Yucatán is the first institution in southeastern Mexico to offer this educational program, leveraging technology and these new innovative facilities to prepare young people for this workforce, positioning it as a pioneer in a national network of universities, technical schools, and vocational schools in the region.
The Cybersecurity Laboratory is designed to train experts in the field and to research and innovate procedures for governing, managing, detecting and responding to emerging digital threats in various application domains such as Industry 4.0, Industrial Control Systems (ICS)/SCADA (Critical Infrastructure), Fintech, Blockchain, IoT and Artificial Intelligence.
It is noteworthy that the state of Yucatán has established itself as a reference in cybersecurity by establishing two new cybersecurity laboratories and five ICT laboratories at the Polytechnic University of Yucatán (UPY) and the Metropolitan Polytechnic University (UTM), contributing to the training of experts in research and innovation in the detection and response of digital threats.
In this way, Yucatan became the first organization with cybersecurity careers and expertise in the entire southeastern part of the country.
