In the UK, a health technology assessment authority has ruled in favour of reimbursement for a new use of Merck’s (NYSE: MRK ) Keytruda (pembrolizumab).
The decision targets key checkpoint inhibitors in combination with chemotherapy as first-line treatment for selected patients with gastric or gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma.
Gastric cancer is the fifth most common cancer in the world, with more than 6,500 new cases each year in the UK, and it often goes undetected until it is at an advanced stage.
