Soracom, a division of KDDI, has integrated generative AI tools into its cellular IoT platform to enhance connectivity and service capabilities for users. The move sees the introduction of two key services, Soracom Flux and Soracom Query Intelligence, aimed at simplifying and speeding up IoT adoption, especially for non-technical users.
Soracom Flux allows users to build custom IoT applications using a low-code approach. The service integrates a variety of data sources with generative AI engines from OpenAI, Google Gemini, Microsoft Azure AI, Amazon Bedrock, and more. It targets industries such as manufacturing, construction, healthcare, energy, and retail. Flux allows users to define data flows and issue natural language commands, such as alerting if a camera detects a worker not wearing proper protective gear.
Meanwhile, Soracom Query Intelligence takes IoT network management to a new level of ease, leveraging natural language processing to enable administrators to query network data and gain insights through narrative text and data visualization. This capability builds on the existing Soracom Query management data warehouse, enabling complex data analysis without requiring SQL or data visualization skills.
Kenta Yasukawa, co-founder and CTO of Soracom, highlighted the transformative potential of these new tools: “We have always envisioned an Internet of Things where connected devices can interact with each other and make decisions in real time. The emergence of public generation AI services has the potential to make that vision a reality. These new services drive AI even deeper within the IoT stack. Project teams can now accomplish in minutes what once took months and required specialized skills. Even non-technical managers can now have full control over the largest, most globally distributed IoT network,” he said.
The release of Soracom Flux and Soracom Query Intelligence has the potential to significantly shorten IoT project timelines, empowering non-technical staff to manage large-scale IoT deployments and run data queries without specialized training. This democratizes access to sophisticated IoT network management tools, potentially reducing costs and increasing agility.
Soracom Flux is available in public beta, with Professional and Enterprise plans to be released later this year. Soracom Query Intelligence is in preview for select customers and is expected to bring further innovation to the growing IoT market.
