Governance
Walmart’s Board of Directors has delegated oversight responsibility for risk management related to information systems, information security, data privacy and cybersecurity to the Audit Committee. For more information about the Audit Committee’s oversight of digital trust and cybersecurity, see Walmart’s 2024 Annual Report on Form 10-K.
Walmart’s Digital Citizenship team, led by the Chief Counsel for Digital Citizenship who reports to the Chief Legal Officer, helps Walmart comply with its Digital Trust Commitment. The team develops and implements emerging technologies, new services and innovative ways to serve customers. The team also tracks relevant laws and regulations and monitors Walmart’s privacy policies and notices. The team includes compliance and legal personnel with expertise in digital value, emerging technologies, cybersecurity, data privacy and governance, ethical AI and biometrics, and information management.
Our Chief Information Security Officer (reporting to the Chief Technology Officer) leads Walmart’s information security organization and is responsible for overseeing Walmart’s cybersecurity program, which is supported by a dedicated team of cybersecurity officers and experts who help assess, identify, monitor, detect and manage cybersecurity risks, threats, vulnerabilities and incidents.
To promote good practices, these teams regularly provide information security and data privacy training to employees and certain third parties based on access, risk, role, policies, standards and behaviors. For example, in fiscal year 2024, approximately 1.4 million U.S. employees completed information security and digital citizenship training.
