The country has the fastest average mobile and 5G download speeds in the Asia Pacific region.
London-based mobile analytics firm OpenSignal announced on February 5 that South Korea’s average mobile download speed from October 1 to December 29 last year was 140.2Mbps, the fastest among 25 countries in the region.
This is 14.8 Mbps faster than two years ago and almost double the speed of the runner-up in the Asia-Pacific region, Singapore (71.1). In third place is Australia (58.5), followed by Taiwan (55.7), India (51.5) and China (50.5).
South Korea also had the fastest average 5G download speed in the region, with speeds of 436.7Mbps.
In second place was Malaysia (337.7 Mbps), followed by Singapore (292.9 Mbps) and India (280.7 Mbps).
The fastest country in Europe was Denmark (301.8 Mbps), followed by Bulgaria (288.9) and Croatia (274.3).
India ranked first in the region in 5G availability, or the percentage of time connected to 5G mobile communications, at 44.3%. South Korea came in second (38.3%), followed by Singapore (33.3%), Thailand (24.8%) and Malaysia (23.6%).
