The companies profiled are developing technologies in a range of key subsectors, including energy production, energy distribution, energy storage, hydrogen solutions, waste-to-energy, carbon capture and companies providing OT cyber security solutions for energy-specific applications.
The map was launched at an event held at Start-Up Nation Central, which brought together leading companies and organizations active in Israel’s energy tech community, where stakeholders discussed current and future challenges in the energy tech sector, as well as possible solutions.
During the event, experts from the energy technology sector shared their in-depth knowledge and insights on a wide range of promising companies currently operating in Israel. Relevant stakeholders included multinational corporations, financial institutions, investors, national-level decision makers and leaders of multinational initiatives in Israel and around the world.
“Startup Nation Central believes that energy tech, and climate tech in general, is the area with the greatest growth potential in the Israeli ecosystem,” said Yael Weiss-Zilberman, Head of Climate Tech at Startup Nation Central. “Through global outreach to multinational companies and investors, we are promoting Israel’s energy sector and its technologies as a critical and viable solution to the world’s energy challenges, and a solutions hub for reducing global carbon emissions. Mapping the sub-sectors and the companies within each sub-sector allows for broader access to Israeli technological solutions and scales activity across the sector.”
“The remarkable growth of the energy tech ecosystem demonstrates its dual nature: tackling some of the toughest areas to decarbonize, but also embracing a rapidly expanding business environment,” added Sean Dana, CEO of Ignite the Spark. “We fully recognize that the journey will undoubtedly be a rollercoaster, but we are here to support bold pioneers with the vision to become the next gigacorn.”
Hilla Lipman, Head of Cleantech and Smart Infrastructure at Israel Export Institute, said: “The Israel Export Institute and Cleantech sector are proud to partner with Ignite the Spark and Startup Nation Central on this pioneering event focused on Israel’s thriving energy ecosystem. We believe that this sector, which consists of numerous cutting-edge energy solutions, is essential in accelerating the transition to a sustainable and clean energy future. At Export Institute, we provide a gateway for Israeli industry to enter global markets. We believe today’s event will be a milestone in the collaboration between Israel’s energy tech industry and international stakeholders to drive this important transition. Together with our partners and the Foreign Trade Control Authority of the Israeli Ministry of Economy and Industry, we will enhance international exposure to the latest innovations in the sector.”
The energy sector is one of the fastest growing technology sectors in the world, especially given the global challenges and growing need to reduce total emissions. Around 70% of global greenhouse gas emissions come from the energy sector, and innovation to reduce this impact is essential to achieving net zero.
One of the most exciting areas of innovation in Israel’s energy tech ecosystem is hydrogen. Seen by many as the magic bullet for driving the transition to a low-carbon economy, Israeli startups are developing a range of solutions to produce, store and transport hydrogen more efficiently and cost-effectively.
At the recent Climate Change Summit, global players made important commitments to reduce emissions and significantly change policies regarding energy production and consumption. In this context, global players are actively seeking innovative solutions to achieve their emission reduction targets, including in the Israeli ecosystem. It is essential to understand which technologies and initiatives have the greatest potential to address climate change.
The EnergyTech Landscape Map is an important tool to help multinational companies and venture capital investors identify Israeli companies and solutions with great potential in this sector.
