Asus ROG Ally users are facing issues like infinite loop and missing input with the new Armoury Crate update Fix ACSE 1.5 issues for ROG Ally: Reset Armoury Crate SE settings in Windows 11 desktop mode The Z1 Extreme version of ROG Ally is experiencing conflicts with ACSE 1.5 files, resulting in issues like crashes and missing settings.
Several Asus ROG Ally users are reporting that the portable gaming PC’s latest Armoury Crate Special Edition 1.5 software update is causing major issues. This revamped version of Asus’ Armoury Crate software was recently released alongside the ROG Ally X, but it didn’t seem to work too well for owners of the original Asus ROG Ally.
Asus launched the ROG Ally X last year as a rival to Valve’s hugely popular Steam Deck handheld gaming PC, but where Steam Deck uses a specialized version of Linux as its operating system, ROG Ally uses full-fledged desktop Windows 11. Because it’s not optimized for use in a handheld format, Asus provides ROG Ally users with its custom Armoury Crate hub software, which overlays Windows and makes the device much easier to use without a keyboard or mouse.

The ASUS ROG Ally X is the latest handheld to hit the on-the-go gaming scene, and here’s everything you need to know about it.
To coincide with the recent launch of the revamped ROG Ally X, Asus has released an improved version of Armoury Crate: Special Edition 1.5. While reviews of the Asus ROG Ally X indicate that the ACSE 1.5 software works perfectly fine on the new device, it doesn’t seem to be running as smoothly for ROG Ally owners. In Reddit’s r/ROGAlly community, users have reported that installing the ACSE 1.5 firmware update on their ROG Ally results in an infinite installation loop and loss of input. Further investigation revealed that these issues are primarily occurring on the AMD Z1 Extreme version of the ROG Ally.
How to fix Armoury Crate 1.5 issues on Asus ROG Ally
Locate the Armoury Crate SE shortcut on your ROG Ally in Windows 11 desktop mode. Right-click on the logo. Click “Settings” from the menu. Locate the “Reset” prompt near the bottom of the menu and select it. Once complete, reboot your device.
Owners of the cheaper Z1 variant of the Asus ROG Ally were largely unaffected, but affected users noted several ancillary issues, including AMD Radeon Super Resolution no longer working, TDP settings suddenly disappearing, frequent crashes, and slow switching between operating system modes. Affected ROG Ally users speculated that these issues were likely caused by an installation conflict between the ACSE 1.5 files and the previous Armoury Core directory. Thankfully, a fairly simple fix was discovered and posted shortly after users began reporting the issue.
While the ROG Ally’s powerful Z1 Extreme chipset will perform better than Steam Deck in most cases, users may need to troubleshoot issues like this from time to time due to the Asus handheld’s reliance on Windows 11. Luckily, the strong community behind the Asus ROG Ally banded together and came up with a solution fairly quickly.
