(Lawrenceburg/Batesville, IN) – Ivy Tech Community College has established a new scholarship program for students in the Lawrenceburg and Batesville areas who are interested in furthering their education in the healthcare field.
The Southeastern Indiana (SE IN) Healthcare Scholarship was unveiled at the annual President’s Scholarship and Donor Reception Celebration held April 16 at the Lawrenceburg Events Center.
In celebration of the opening of St. Elizabeth’s new Cancer Center in Dearborn County, Ivy Tech Lawrenceburg President Mark Graber invested $100,000 in the scholarship opportunity as an effort to meet the growing demand for skilled medical professionals in the local community, said Loretta Day, executive director of development.
Angela Roberts, vice president, facilities administrator and chief nursing officer at St. Elizabeth Dearborn Hospital, expressed her appreciation for the college’s efforts and shared some statistics about how important having a skilled workforce will be as the hospital continues to expand its footprint in southeastern Indiana.
“Ivy Tech Community College is a very important community partner for St. Elizabeth Healthcare,” said Roberts. “The healthcare industry will face workforce challenges in the coming years, so it is critical that we strengthen this collaboration and develop the workforce to provide healthcare to future generations in our community. The SE IN Healthcare Scholarship will aid in this effort, developing and supporting the healthcare workforce of the future. Our community is very fortunate to have Ivy Tech Community College in our presence.”
The SE IN Healthcare Scholarship provides educational opportunities for adult students seeking certification or job-readiness classes within the Lawrenceburg/Batesville service area. The service area includes Dearborn, Franklin, Ohio and Ripley counties. Scholarships will be awarded annually as funds become available, up to a maximum of $5,000 per person per year.
This scholarship is available with or without a degree and is designed for those interested in changing jobs or upgrading their skills. The scholarship can be used towards tuition, technology fees, online fees, books and supplies for all healthcare-related programs at Ivy Tech Lawrenceburg/Batesville.
Those interested in the scholarship must be enrolled at Ivy Tech Lawrenceburg/Batesville as a degree- or certificate-seeking student or taking employer-mandated courses. Students may attend full-time or part-time and there is no limit to the number of credits taken per semester.
