According to a report from Azernews, Microsoft has released an official recovery tool to eliminate the effects of the global PC crash update.
The new recovery tool is designed to significantly simplify and speed up the process of resolving problems.
Before this vulnerability, the only available options were step-by-step guides that required manual intervention, which could take a long time, especially for organizations with hundreds or thousands of affected devices.
To use the recovery tool, the company provides detailed instructions and a list of necessary conditions, including having at least 8GB of free space on the affected computer, administrative privileges, a BitLocker recovery key (for encrypted computers), and a bootable USB drive with at least 1GB of capacity.
Recall that the crash occurred last Thursday, when a CrowdStrike update was automatically installed on the device. The problem is that CrowdStrike, a provider of security solutions, works at the core level of the operating system. If an error occurs at this level, the computer will not boot and you will see the so-called “Blue Screen of Death” (BSoD).
Microsoft estimates that the problematic update affected more than 8.5 million Windows computers. While this represents less than 1% of all Windows computers worldwide, the outage had a significant impact on thousands of organizations and critical infrastructure.
Microsoft responded quickly to the situation by sending in experts to help customers. The company also partnered with CrowdStrike, Google Cloud Platform, and Amazon Web Services to find the most effective ways to repair affected computers faster.
