PM Modi said women involved in the handloom industry are now earning more after joining UNNATI self-help groups and receiving training in block dyeing and printing.
“These women who work the magic of colour on clothes are earning lakhs of rupees today,” he said.
Emerging Industries and Beyond
The Prime Minister said that startups and AI-enabled initiatives have boosted the handloom industry in India.
“Many start-ups like Kosha AI, Handloom India, D-Junk, Novatax and Brahmaputra Fables are also working to popularise handloom products,” he said.
In his address, PM Modi said the turnover of the Khadi village industry has crossed the Rs 1,500 crore mark for the first time and Khadi sales across the country have increased by 400 per cent.
The Chief Minister added that the Khadi promotion has also created a large number of new employment opportunities, especially for women.
The Prime Minister also spoke about the recently launched drug rehabilitation centres and a digital platform called ‘Manas’ to tackle the menace of drug addiction.
“This is a huge step in the fight against drug abuse. The ‘Manas’ helpline and portal was launched a few days ago,” PM Modi said.
“The government has issued a toll-free number ‘1933’. Anyone can call this number to get necessary advice and information on rehabilitation. Anyone with any other information related to drugs can also share it with the Narcotics Control Agency by calling this number. All information shared with MANAS will be kept confidential,” he added.
Continued Efforts
Prime Minister Modi also hailed the rise in tiger population and rapid increase in forest area in the country, which he said was due to widespread public participation.
He also urged people to upload selfies with the national flag on the government website harghartiranga.com as Independence Day approaches.
In his address, the Prime Minister also reviewed the recent inscription of Charaideo Maidam in Assam as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
“Charaideo means shining city on a hill. It was the first capital of the Ahom dynasty. The Ahoms traditionally kept the remains of their ancestors and valuables in Maidam,” he said.
This will boost tourism to the place, he added.
During his address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke to Indian students who recently won four gold medals and one silver medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad and discussed their strategies for success.
