WESTBOROUGH, Mass., July 24, 2024–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Kopin Corporation (NASDAQ: KOPN), a pioneering provider of application-specific optical solutions and high-performance microdisplays for defense, enterprise, consumer and medical products, today announced a milestone in the development of its NeuralDisplay™ platform software.
This innovative software platform has now reached the alpha testing stage of development, marking a key milestone in Kopin’s NeuralDisplay™ development efforts, which Kopin has been working on since it began development in 2023, aiming to revolutionize Organic Light-Emitting Diode on Silicon (OLEDoS) and Micro Light-Emitting Diode (MicroLED) microdisplays for defense, consumer and other spatial computing applications.
We believe that NeuralDisplay™ will eliminate the need for dedicated cameras used for eye tracking in many spatial computing systems, reducing size, weight, power consumption and cost. Neural Display is designed to enable dynamic brightness, contrast and gaze control, monitoring of eye strain and rapid response to neural stimuli such as pupil dilation due to the fight-or-flight response.
Achieving this required unique innovation. The human eye is the gateway to a user’s environment and neural state. By integrating traditional RGB pixels, image sensing pixels, and advanced signal processing algorithms onto a silicon backplane, NeuralDisplay™ delivers high-fidelity eye tracking, gaze monitoring, and neural response analysis while maintaining real-time display performance.
A video demo of Kopin’s NeuralDisplay™ eye-tracking software can be viewed here. The video shows the user steering the spacecraft with their eye movements, which the software tracks and measures. Green captions indicate pupil size, red circles indicate eye focus, and the spacecraft follows the user’s gaze.
“We believe NeuralDisplay™ is a groundbreaking platform that will redefine user interaction across a variety of industries, from defense to consumer electronics,” said Bill Maffucci, senior vice president of business development and strategy at Kopin. “With its cutting-edge display architecture, integrated AI and developer-friendly software ecosystem, we believe NeuralDisplay™ has the potential to become the foundation for the next generation of spatial computing and visual systems.”
