HTC has released a trailer for its new VR headset on the HTC Vive YouTube channel. While no information has been released and the headset itself hasn’t been properly revealed, it appears that specs for the new headset have already been revealed on social media.
HTC is no newcomer to VR: While the Meta Quest 3 and Apple Vision Pro have dominated the VR news cycle lately, the company also makes some very powerful (and expensive) VR headsets.
The trailer only hints at the potential of the new headset, nothing more. | Video credit — HTC
VR hardware analyst Bradley Lynch appears to have some early specs for HTC’s next headset, and if his information is to be believed, the new headset will feature the same display and controllers as the HTC Vive Focus 3.
It will also feature the same chipset as the HTC Vive XR Elite, and the new headset will also be compatible with the Vive Focus 3 accessory.
HTC Vive Focus 4 leak:
Dual color camera with depth sensor
Same optics/display/controller as Focus 3
Same as XR Elite, XR2 Gen 1 (8GB-12GB RAM)
USB-C DisplayPort Alternate Mode
Built-in eye tracking

— Brad Lynch (@SadlyItsBradley) July 24, 2024The 90Hz refresh rate of the Vive Focus 3 isn’t ideal — I’d have preferred 120Hz — but if the new headset had eye tracking and a USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode, as Bradley claims, that might make it a little more appealing. The new headset will reportedly have more RAM than the Vive Focus 3.
Following in the tradition of the Focus 3 and XR Elite, we expect the new headset to be significantly more expensive than the Quest 3, though it probably won’t come anywhere close to the price of the Vision Pro.
Maybe HTC will announce more details at the upcoming Augmented World Expo (AWE) in Vienna, but we don’t know why they didn’t announce any details at the recent AWE event in Long Beach – we can only assume the headset wasn’t ready yet.
Hopefully, HTC’s new headset won’t be too expensive, but if the company wants to be one of the best VR headsets around, it’s going to cost the average consumer a pretty penny.
