“Push Play” by Technology Industry Veteran Dr. Song-Yi Yoon to be published by Forbes Books
NEW YORK (March 26, 2024) — Dr. Song-Yi Yoon’s new book, Push Play: Gaming for a Better World, is available on Amazon today. Dr. Yoon, President of NCSOFT and a leading expert in artificial intelligence, passionately argues that video games are a source of good for the world.
Having risen to the top in a male-dominated industry, Dr. Yoon hopes Push Play will pave the way for a more diverse and equitable tech community, where women and marginalized groups aren’t hindered from pursuing their passions in STEM — after all, games are better with more players.
“Humans need play to grow, adapt and survive,” said Dr. Yoon. “Video games provide an open space to explore and create. Every day brings new global challenges, but through play, we discover countless opportunities to improve humanity’s journey on this planet.”
Through his career in the games industry and deep passion for technology, Dr. Yoon will outline how innovation in games is driving the industry forward and creating a more equitable world for everyone. Readers will learn:
Learn how games challenge AI researchers and developers to consider everyone’s perspective. Gain tips and tricks from games to lead diverse and dynamic business teams. Explore the digital world of massively multiplayer online games and understand why we need inclusive digital communities.
“Play is the touchstone of innovation, a crystal ball that tells us where things are headed. In AI, the most important technological innovation of our generation, there are many best practices we can learn from games that can help shape the technology into something more balanced and representative.”
Push Play is published by Forbes Books, Forbes’ exclusive business book publishing imprint.

About Dr. Song-Yi Yun
Dr. Song-Yi Yun has been at the forefront of technology, ethics, and play for decades. From an early age, she recognized the power of play in the human experience, but also recognized technology’s potential for good and, increasingly, its potential for harm.
Dr. Yoon received her PhD in Computational Neuroscience from MIT. However, her strong belief in the notion of “play” as a proving ground for innovation ultimately led her to NCSOFT, a global video game development and publishing company, where she served as President and Chief Strategy Officer. Foreseeing the importance of emerging technologies, she founded the NCSOFT AI Center and the Natural Language Processing Center. Dr. Yoon’s early interest in artificial intelligence led her to seek to help AI developers consider the ethical implications alongside the technical possibilities.
She is a member of the MIT Corporation, a member of the advisory board of the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered AI, a trustee of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a member of the advisory board of the Asia-Pacific Policy Center, and a visiting scholar at RAND’s Center for Advancing Racial Equity Policy, where she continued to explore the social impacts of AI, fairness, and the ethical dimensions of the technology.
Dr. Yoon served under two South Korean presidents as a member of the Presidential Advisory Council on Science and Technology. She has been named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and one of 50 Women to Watch in Business by The Wall Street Journal.
