NPC Labs, a Web3 gaming infrastructure startup founded by former Base team members, announced it has raised $21 million, including $18 million from a seed round led by Pantera Capital, according to a July 22 statement shared with CryptoSlate.
Other investors include Makers Fund, Hashed, Collab+Currency, Sfermion, Mirana Ventures, Bitscale Capital, and Mantle EcoFund.
3 Billion Gamers Joining
NPC Labs noted that while Web2 developers recognize the potential of on-chain gaming, they often underestimate the complexity of creating protocols with sufficient liquidity and user base while managing the infrastructure for smooth gameplay.
The company hopes to solve this challenge by speeding up the onboarding and development process for on-chain games. To achieve this, the company is currently acting as a core contributor to B3.fun, a groundbreaking horizontally-scaled gaming ecosystem on Coinbase’s L2 network, Base.
B3 was designed with built-in chain abstraction, eliminating the need for users to bridge or switch networks. The ecosystem is currently in testnet phase and supports games built on Ethereum, Base, and other EVM chains.
Its unique and highly scalable technology stack also enables B3 to seamlessly onboard games from other chains, such as Solana.
Daryl Xu, co-founder and CEO of NPC Labs, noted that in today’s competitive gaming industry, developers struggle to bring their games to market, and how they rely on publishers “for support, marketing and distribution.”
But B3 helps take back control by making it easier for game developers and gamers to enjoy the benefits of on-chain.
“We are excited to partner with NPC Labs to bring our innovative technology to the market,” said Viktoriya Hying, co-founder and COO of NPC Labs.
“Imagine what would happen if every published game had its own console and infrastructure. It’s unrealistic. Gamers all just want one place to play many games. B3 is that console, and the B3 ecosystem solves these problems by running the chain and providing the infrastructure needed so developers can focus on delivering the best experience for players.”
Franklin Bi, general partner at Pantera Capital, said B3’s infrastructure and tools will add a new dimension to Base, enabling developers to build great games and on-chain consumer experiences.
