Qmod provides an enterprise-grade quantum programming functional modeling approach for advanced quantum research and enterprise applications.
TEL AVIV, Israel / ACCESSWIRE / July 23, 2024 / Classiq today announced the general availability of Qmod (Quantum Modeling Language), the first high-level language (HLL) for quantum coding. Following a successful pilot project with an enterprise partner, Qmod is now available to developers, researchers and businesses around the world, transforming quantum computing with its efficient and approachable way of programming.
Qmod facilitates advanced quantum modeling, allowing developers to describe quantum algorithms at a high level of abstraction, supporting unique quantum computing concepts on top of traditional constructs found in high-level classical programming languages. This innovative approach allows developers to focus on the functional intent of their algorithms while Classiq’s powerful compiler and composition engine handles the complex hardware-enabled quantum implementation details.
“To realize business and scientific value, quantum computing must be useful and accessible to the scientists and engineers who want to use it to solve real-world problems, which is not the case today,” said Dr. Heather West, research manager for quantum computing at IDC. “Currently, programming quantum computers is done at the hardware level, so only quantum physicists and other quantum experts have access to the technology. As discussions begin about the practicality and near-term applications of quantum, abstract-level application programming will be essential for widespread adoption and use of quantum.”
What makes the Qmod language different?
Declarative Programming: Qmod’s declarative nature allows users to define what an algorithm will accomplish, rather than what it will achieve. Classiq’s synthesis engine compiler automatically optimizes for hardware and other constraints.
Flexible and Interoperable: Whether via native syntax, Python, or graphical representation, Qmod descriptions are easily translatable and compatible across a variety of formats and hardware.
Industry Ready: Qmod is a tool for researchers and industry applications, providing a robust, scalable solution for enterprise-grade quantum software development at a time when qubit counts are steadily increasing and coding complexity is growing as a result.
“As we move further into building a complete quantum software stack, our groundbreaking Qmod language empowers quantum experts to write advanced programs while simultaneously enabling non-quantum developers to innovate and solve complex problems across a variety of industry domains,” said Nir Minerbi, CEO and co-founder of Classiq. “By abstracting away the complexities of quantum programming, Qmod provides the ability to easily create and deploy dynamic quantum applications, in some cases with perhaps five lines of code instead of 100 traditional lines of code. Like Java for the World Wide Web and BASIC for PCs, Qmod is intended to open the door to advanced quantum implementations.”
Classiq’s platform ensures that quantum algorithms designed in Qmod can be seamlessly compiled for a wide range of hardware and simulation environments, supporting seamless HPC integration. The platform’s composition engine dynamically adapts implementations to different hardware configurations, enabling rapid benchmarking and ensuring optimal implementations that make the best use of available hardware.
