BBVA selected Telefónica Tech to incorporate cutting-edge technologies in artificial intelligence and process automation to prevent cyber threats and strengthen the cybersecurity of its operations on a global scale. In addition, the partnership includes the establishment of a new center of expertise in Mexico, which will serve as a mirror of BBVA’s existing Global Cybersecurity Center in Spain. The combination of the two centers will provide comprehensive and uninterrupted coverage across the Group.
The development of this new project makes Telefónica Tech one of BBVA’s main strategic partners in cyber security. The bank will incorporate the technology company’s latest advancements, backed by its global experience and intelligence advantages to detect, identify and respond to potential threats, while monitoring the activities of cyber attackers. Telefónica Tech offers around 50 services aimed at providing a holistic security response to each element of the bank’s operations and business, including solutions to predict threats in advance, defining operational tactics, strategies to strengthen BBVA’s resilience and protecting its Data Processing Centers (DPCs).
One of the main novelties of this agreement is the creation of a new Center of Expertise in the Americas in Mexico, which will be fully operational in July and join the BBVA Cybersecurity Center in Europe (Spain). The two hubs will be staffed by around 200 Telefónica Tech cybersecurity experts, who will work together with the BBVA team to offer global and complementary services, forming one of the largest cybersecurity centers in the financial industry.
“These two centers dedicated to cybersecurity are unique in the financial industry and mark another step in protecting our infrastructure with the latest technological advancements. Our goal is to strengthen our security against any type of attack and to be the bank that offers the best service to our customers with the best security guarantees on the market,” said Sergio Fidalgo, Global CISO at BBVA.
María Jesús Almazor, COO for Spain and the Americas at Telefónica Tech, points out that it is important for organizations to continuously evolve their cybersecurity measures so they can anticipate threats and best respond when attacked: “We are pleased to be involved in BBVA’s global security process with our technological capabilities and expert talent. Supported by a global network of more than 1,500 people in cybersecurity operations and more than 10 Security Operations Centers (SOCs) in Europe and the Americas, our experts monitor and oversee the organization’s security 24/7,” he said.
As its cybersecurity operations evolve, BBVA continues on its path to digital transformation by partnering with Telefónica Tech to adopt cutting-edge technologies in artificial intelligence and process automation to better protect digital customers in the more than 25 countries where the bank operates.
