Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance (AFI KLM E&M) and Parker Aerospace Group have successfully implemented an innovative blockchain platform designed to comprehensively track and trace aircraft parts from their manufacture to their installation and removal. The groundbreaking system, powered by SkyThread’s blockchain-based data sharing platform, enables AFI KLM E&M to monitor the history of new and refurbished Parker aircraft parts used in their 787 fleet. Introduction to Blockchain Platforms The introduction of this platform marks a major advancement for the aviation industry, providing real-time tracking and complete event history of aircraft parts. Initially, the system went live on…
According to a press release dated July 11, the National Science Foundation has selected the University of Texas’ Texas Advanced Computing Center as a leadership-class computing facility to lead national research projects, investing $457 million in the project. The foundation’s initial investment will cover additional staffing, construction of a new data center and overall improvements to the facility, which will become a national resource, said Katie Antipas, the foundation’s director of advanced cyberinfrastructure. “(This facility) will be the largest advanced computing system in the nation,” Antipas said. “It will serve a national need, and it’s important to note that (the…
“With the support of a syndicate of experienced international investors, we plan to accelerate our ambitious development pipeline,” said Cedric Verberken, CEO of Comfo Therapeutics. “Our plans include potential new treatments for serious and rare endocrine disorders, as well as next-generation obesity medications that could be used in combination with, or as an alternative to, GLP-1R agonists.” In addition to lead investor Ackermans & van Haaren, new and existing investors participating in the round include BioGeneration Ventures (BGV), Capricorn Health-tech Fund (CHF), Fund+, MINTS (University of Michigan), Perceptive Advisors, Qbic, PMV, V-Bio Ventures, VIB and Wellington Partners. A British startup that hopes to challenge Nvidia’s dominance in chips for AI applications with an innovative hardware design has emerged from stealth with $15 million in seed funding to pursue its idea. The startup, Fractile, is the brainchild of Walter Goodwin, a 28-year-old PhD graduate from the University of Oxford’s Robotics Institute. Like other teams hoping to take on Nvidia, Goodwin is pursuing a chip design that is very different from the graphics processing units (GPUs) that Nvidia makes. The British startup is the latest in a slew of startups and big tech companies trying to offer chips that can compete…
With roughly 100 days until Election Day, politically-focused AI startups are hoping the burgeoning technology can help national and local candidates quickly adapt to unexpected changes and put in place the right guardrails. Since privately launching this spring, BattlegroundAI has been helping state and local-level candidates use generative AI to create YouTube scripts, social content, and digital ads. Powered by leading large-scale language models such as Gemini, ChatGPT, and Claude, BattlegroundAI’s platform helps solo campaigns and smaller organizations leverage top AI models to create content and analyze data quickly and at scale. After working in both advertising and politics (including…
Over the past three years, Peter Fankhauser’s industrial robots have not only been able to climb stairs, but also vault between boxes, perform backflips, and perform other parkour-like tricks. The robot is not programmed to perform these new actions, but rather adapts to the environment thanks to new artificial intelligence models.”This is what seems to be the next revolution,” said Fankhauser, CEO of ANYbotics, a Zurich-based robotics startup. “Robots are starting to do really artistic things, and it’s almost scary, because they’re playing with the laws of physics.”Over the past decade, the $74 billion robotics sector has seen its capabilities accelerate…
Karnataka, at the forefront of technological and industrial innovation in India, is poised for transformative growth with several strategic initiatives on the horizon. A recent high-level discussion between 200 prominent CEOs and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on the sidelines of the Bengaluru Tech Summit inaugural event covered a series of crucial topics. Key legislative and policy measures were at the heart of these discussions. Organizations and CXOs will strategize on the implementation of AI and its use cases. To that end, Karnataka’s plans include “setting up centres of excellence in AI, design, wireless and wired technologies,” said Priyank Kharge, Minister of…
Oliver Tucker, co-founder and CEO of Wireless Logic. Image courtesy of Wireless Logic. The Internet of Things (IoT) has come a long way from smart TVs, washing machines, and CCTVs. A recent Kaspersky survey found that 64% of businesses in Asia Pacific have already deployed some form of IoT (sensors, smartwatches, VR headsets, etc.). But as IoT adoption grows, so does the attack surface, with only around 10% of IoT owners considering themselves fully protected from cyber threats. For companies like Wireless Logic, IoT is a dynamic field that requires continuous innovation to meet evolving business demands. Oliver Tucker, co-founder…
Iris Coleman 2024-07-26 01:35 The latest release of the NVIDIA Kaolin library introduces Simplicits, enabling advanced elastic simulation on a wide range of 3D models to enhance applications such as AR/VR and robotics. Recent advances in generative AI and multi-view reconstruction have paved the way for rapid generation of 3D content, but real-world applications in areas like robotics, design, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and gaming require manipulating these 3D models in physically plausible ways, according to an NVIDIA technical blog. Issues with conventional physical simulations Traditional physics simulation algorithms designed for well-conditioned,…
Semiconductor chipmaker Nvidia, one of the world’s largest publicly traded companies, has acquired a software business that was helped to grow by the Chattanooga startup incubator Brickyard.”Brickyard was the only investor that wanted to meet in person,” Nader Khalil, co-founder of the San Francisco-based firm Brave Dev Inc., said by phone. “They flew us out to Chattanooga and didn’t know they were going to invest. That’s how they do business.”(Read more: Brickyard invites founder to Chattanooga)Earlier this month, Nvidia acquired Brev.dev, and Khalil and his team now work at the chipmaker, which is seen as one of the biggest beneficiaries…
