Sara Hussein covers the climate crisis, environment and science across the Asia-Pacific region. She was previously deputy bureau chief in Tokyo, where she led coverage of events ranging from the pandemic-postponed Tokyo Olympics to the assassination of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Prior to that, she was based in the Middle East for almost eight years, reporting from areas including Israel, the Palestinian Territories, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Egypt and Libya. In 2011, she won the Bayou Calvados Award for War Correspondents in the “Young Reporter” category for her reporting in Libya. Hussein began her AFP career in 2009 on the North American news desk in Washington.
Qasim Nauman covers the technology sector, its economy and the impact of our hyper-connected world on societies and individuals across the Asia-Pacific region. Outside of technology, he has helped cover some of the biggest stories in the region, from the COVID-19 pandemic and the fall of Afghanistan, the political crisis in Hong Kong and major terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka and New Zealand. He joined AFP in 2017 as editor of the Asia-Pacific newsdesk in Hong Kong. Previously, he was a reporter for The Wall Street Journal based in Islamabad.
