Apple released iOS 17.6 on Monday, the same day it also released the second public beta of iOS 18 and the first developer beta of iOS 18.1. In the update’s release notes, the tech giant wrote that it includes important bug fixes and security updates and is recommended for all users.

What’s included in iOS 17.6?
After using the beta update, there isn’t much new as far as I can tell. According to 9to5Mac, if you subscribe to the MLS Season Pass, you’ll get access to a catch-up feature on your iPhone, which will show you a series of clips from the game if you start watching after it has started.
Other than that, there are some minor wording changes in some menus, but this update is focused on patches and bug fixes. This isn’t all that surprising for a few reasons.
This concludes the iOS 17.6 release notes.

Firstly, everything that Apple had said would be in iOS 17 has already been released. When the tech giant announced iOS 17 in 2023, it had said that it would bring many features to the iPhone, such as standby mode and the Journal app. Most of these features were available at the time of iOS 17’s release, while some became available later. They are all now being considered, so there is nothing in particular that we were hoping for in a future update.
Also, when Apple released iOS 16.6 (the last major iOS 16 update before iOS 17) in July 2023, the focus was on bug fixes and security patches. While those were still important fixes, there were no new features in that update.
Finally, Apple is gearing up for the release of iOS 18. After unveiling the next OS at WWDC in June, the company has already released two public betas of iOS 18, as well as the first developer beta of iOS 18.1. It is unclear when iOS 18 will be released to the public, but we suspect Apple is shifting its focus from iOS 17 to making iOS 18 work properly.
