Did you know Mozilla Thunderbird is still around, and it looks pretty good?
I recently talked about my plan to move away from my usual browser, Vivaldi, and I’ve since started my journey to find replacements for the features I use the most. And to my surprise, I found out that Mozilla Thunderbird is still alive, even though I haven’t used it in more than a decade. After trying it out, I realized it looks pretty good, and it might just become my email client going forward. It’s a good no-nonsense email client that lets me see all my accounts in one inbox and clear my inbox easily with acting like it knows more about what my inbox should look like than I do. Some “smart” email clients can be more frustrating than useful, in my opinion, but Thunderbird knows its place, and I like it. The team has even taken over the K-9 Mail app on Android, so it seems like the project is doing very well.

Are you an air cooler or AIO liquid cooler?
Air coolers are just as capable as all-in-one (AIO) liquid coolers for mid-tier processors and even some high-end chips, but it’s overclocking when an AIO makes more sense. I use a dual-fan CPU air cooler for the trusty 12-core AMD Ryzen 9 7000, for example. Do you use air or liquid to keep your processor cool under load?

8K TV ads make me feel like I’m being left behind
I’m seeing advertisements everywhere for 8K TVs, even though I’m not in the market for one (hello, Google!). 4K is more than enough for the big room and I’m still relying on trusty 1440p for PC gaming. I feel like I’m being left behind, but it seems as though the industry is pressing forth at a quicker pace.

What would make you upgrade your PC handheld?
With companies like ASUS and mSI releasing new and updated versions of their PC handheld gaming devices, there is now the question of what makes upgrading worth it? These devices are not, at the moment, as powerful as a desktop PC, and can’t be upgraded like a desktop PC. This requires the consumer to purchase their next iteration, just like any phone, but for a much more niche audience than phone. What would convince you to upgrade?

Meta says that open-source AI is the path for the future
Meta says that the future of AI is open-source, following the company’s commitment to open-source development. In a statement, Zuckerberg said that he believes that just like how early computing saw the rise of Linux becoming an industry standard, open-source AI will lead the charge. Llama 3 is one of the leading LLMs, and it’s a completely open-source model that anyone can download and use. What do you think?

Are we too reliant on a small number of companies?
Given that the entire world has come to varying degrees of a standstill thanks to a broken update distributed by CrowdStrike, it highlights how much of the world is reliant on just a small number of companies. With airlines, TV channels, and even hospitals taken offline, people are starting to realize that the lack of technological diversity is a terrifying prospect in the long run. Are we too reliant on these companies?
