Hyundai owners can get a free software upgrade to help prevent a theft tactic that has been spreading on social media. The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) has teamed up with Hyundai to combat a rise in auto thefts. The service is available Friday through Sunday, August 2-4, and applies to Hyundai vehicles from model years 2011-2021.
Vehicle owners or leasers will need to bring their Hyundai vehicles to Paint Branch High School, located at 14121 Old Columbia Pike in Burtonsville, to receive the software upgrade and steering wheel lock. Hours are Friday, Aug. 2 and Saturday, Aug. 3 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 4 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
No reservations or ID are required, and there are no software upgrades or steering wheel lock costs.
