IMTS will take place in Chicago from September 9-14, 2024, showcasing global industry innovation in advanced and traditional manufacturing, robotics, automation and digital transformation. WFL will be showcasing its M50 Millturn, known as the “WFL Power Pack,” at its booth.
Even if machine access is limited, the movement sequences are complex, the cycle times are short or there are other additional tasks (deburring, cleaning, turning, pivoting, etc.), articulated robots always find a way.

Visitors at IMTS can experience real machining on WFL’s M50 Millturn with a centre distance of 4,500 mm. The advantages of this machining centre are the wide range of tools available with the powerful drives, the robust connection of the linear tools in the B-axis, the good ergonomics of the operator station and the wide range of tools and cycles implemented in the control panel for increased productivity and process reliability. Customers can configure “their own machine” with the numerous technology modules available. The corresponding WFL cycles on the control support customers to generate highly productive workflows.
On the M50 Millturn, special attention has been paid to user-friendly access to the standard tool magazine, which can be accessed from the front through a large inspection window. A large window in the sliding door also allows full visibility of the working area. The working area of the basic machine is equipped as standard with extremely bright, daylight-like LED lighting. A separate pick-up magazine is available for very long or heavy tools. Workpieces with a length of up to 1,600 mm can be used and changed automatically. The disc magazine can now be expanded up to 200 stations, while still providing direct access to all tool stations. In addition, reliable optical sensors are fitted in the tool magazine to monitor the tool stations.
WFL Online Collision Prevention: CrashGuard Studio
WFL continuously optimizes the machining processes on its machines. However, interruptions that require operator intervention, such as measurement or control, always occur. To maximize machine availability and productivity, it is important to minimize these interruptions. This is ensured by the machine control software package and additional intelligent clamping devices and tools that automate the process.
One of these tools is Crash Guard Studio, which will also be demonstrated at IMTS in Chicago. The realistic 3D simulation software Crash Guard Studio is the perfect tool to test and optimize CNC programs after they have been created or modified. This can be done on an external workstation or directly on the machine control unit. Thanks to the optimization of the entire processing sequence and the correction of errors at an early stage, the risks of collisions and defective parts, as well as unproductive run-ins and downtimes, are now a thing of the past.
This enables the use of a whole new range of potential functions and provides a significant competitive advantage. Crash Guard Studio is the ideal complement to any CAD-CAM software and to the WFL Crash Guard collision prevention software. Data for workpieces, tools and clamping devices can be transferred as required.
The interactive graphics of the Millturn PRO programming software allow efficient and easy creation of NC programs, making Crash Guard Studio a universal programming system for complex workpieces (without freeform surfaces). Programming can be carried out at an external programming station or directly on the control panel of the machine itself. Programmed machining operations can be continuously reviewed step-by-step in Crash Guard Studio.
WFL’s technology cycles cover an extremely wide range of standard and special technologies for all conceivable application cases. These program modules, which only require the input of parameters, enable efficient programming directly on the machine control or on a PC. Programs for both complex and simple workpieces can therefore be created in the shortest possible time.
Furthermore, WFL offers suitable technical solutions for all gear cutting operations, from precise internal gears requiring high precision to large external gears requiring high roughing efficiency.
